INTRODUCTION TO „MODERN KNOWLEDGE – DEVELOPING SCHOOL” TALENT-NURTURING WORKSHOP

Our motto: „We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.” (Marie Curie)

Situation Analysis:

In recent stage of public education, a paradigm change is needed in order to achieve a more effective education-pedagogic situation. Educational experts agree with it and they approach the solution in several ways, but practically from the same basis. They all agree in a lot of factors to be developed in this regime. The reform, the paradigm-change will have to touch the public education policy, organization of educational process, formulation of the education material content, the educational strategy, the recent pedagogical methods, equipment used and relationship with the students. Modifying the role of the teachers – as a cooperative partner in the educational process – is a necessary development to be made.
The pedagogical staff of the Szoboszlói Úti Primary School (the School) recognized the necessity of inevitable modifications in this field and therefore they defined the School as a Talent-Nurturing Workshop to achieve and maintain its high level educational-pedagogical achievement. In order to coordinate the theoretical and practical tasks, a talent and ability developing team was created, led by an appointed team leader. This development can be justified by the macro-environmental changes, listed as below:

  • specific subject-centered education is losing its importance
  • a change in the structure of the curriculum
  • structure of the educational materials is to be modified
  • emphasis is shifted now to the competence-based education and widespread use of info-communication technique
  • the school has into account the pupils’ different socio-cultural background, their different prior-knowledge and abilities
  • Compulsory education lasts until the age of 16 years
  • more and more students continue their studies in higher education
  • career selection is shifted to the age of late adolescence
  • the demand is increasing to organize different special trainings – both in a classroom  or in a non-classroom setting – to respond to the needs, abilities and personal interests of the learners
  • the traditional high-level knowledge of his/her subject and pedagogical methods there is an important requirement towards the teachers now: applying psychology, rich methodical approach and readiness for creative solutions in pedagogy

Strategic Objectives of the Talent-Nurturing Workshop:

  • to show that the school is the most important venue of public education and talent-nurturing
  • to achieve effective talent management by motivating, high-quality education based on the students activity
  • to explore those opportunities which would assist the mission of the teacher, who is one of the key players of talent nurturing

Operative Tasks of the Talent-Nurturing Workshop:

  • talent recognition – talent identification – talent nurturing
